Botnet

A botnet is a network of computers or internet-connected devices that have been compromised by malware and are controlled by a single attacker or group of attackers, often referred to as a “bot herder”. Botnets can be used to perform a variety of malicious activities, such as distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, spamming, and spreading malware.

Once a device is infected with botnet malware, it becomes a “bot” and can be remotely controlled by the bot herder. Bot herders can issue commands to the botnet, such as launching coordinated DDoS attacks, sending spam emails, stealing sensitive data, or installing additional malware.

Botnets can be very difficult to detect and eliminate since they are often distributed across many devices and locations. They are frequently used for illegal activities, such as stealing personal information, distributing malware, and conducting cyberattacks.
